Mis-sold Investment

Have you made a financial investment and lost money?

If the answer is yes, there is an extremely good chance that the investment was mis-sold to you and that you are entitled to compensation.

When taking professional advice about a possible financial investment, you put your trust in an industry professional. You hope they have your best interests in mind.

Unfortunately, over the last couple of years, there have been numerous cases in the UK of both financial advisors and institutions giving negligent advice and mis-selling these investments.

The majority of the time, the investor is totally unaware of the high risks involved when making the financial investment.

What Are Mis-Sold Investment Claims?

The Financial Conduct Authority stipulates that financial services must be sold in a transparent, fair, and non-misleading manner. All potential risks should be outlined before selling the investment and any advice must be in the best interests of the client. An investment is mis-sold if you purchased it after receiving inaccurate or negligent financial advice from an independent financial advisor, broker, bank representative, or another salesperson dealing in financial services or products. For example, if the risks of the investment were not fully explained or you were not given all the information to make an informed decision, it means you purchased an unsuitable product for your needs and may be the victim of a mis-sell.

How do I know if my investment was mis-sold?

Simply ask yourself, have I lost money as a result of an investment and was I fully informed of the risks associated with the investment?  If you have lost money and you were not fully informed about the risk, it is very likely that you have a claim. Key indicators of a mis-sold investment are:

  • You were given incorrect advice or unsuitable advice
  • A sales advisor pressured you into an investment that didn’t suit your requirements
  • Your advisor invested in something called an unregulated high-risk investment without your consent
  • You were not given all the information to make an informed decision
  • You were not advised about your increased tax liability by exceeding the tax free threshold
  • You were promised high returns on your investment, which did not materialise
  • You were not informed of additional fees and hidden costs involved with your investment

Below are some of the most common mis-sold investments in the UK:

  • Storage Pods
  • Australian Farmland
  • Sustainable Energy
  • Preference Shares
  • Overseas Property Projects
  • 10-Year Bonds
  • Forex Trading
  • Ethical Forestry
