Mis-sold Business Energy

Are you a business owner or director? Have you ever used an energy broker to sort your business energy needs?

If the answer is yes, the energy contract/s may have been mis-sold and you could be entitled to substantial compensation.

Millions of UK businesses regularly use an energy broker to source their business energy needs, acting as a middleman between you and the supplier. If you’ve used an energy broker, they may have added hidden commission into your energy contracts without clearly explaining it or not referring to it at all.

Energy brokers have a legal obligation to disclose any commissions earned, but over the years many have made misleading statements or deliberately hidden their financial incentives.

Over 90% of UK businesses have used an energy broker and there are upwards of 2 million businesses entitled to compensation.

How do I know if my energy contract was mis-sold?

Ask yourself a simple question, did your energy broker tell you how much in total they made from arranging your business contract? Most do not because they know that most customers would walk away if they knew most of the bill was a commission payment to the broker.

A key sign is if the broker told you that their service was free or that they got their commission from the supplier as an “introducer’s fee”. Typically, most brokers receive their commission directly from the supplier they place you with, and it is built into the unit price they arrange for you. This is usually not disclosed to the customer.

How much could I be owed in compensation?

The current average claim is over £25,000, with some businesses entitled to millions of pounds in energy compensation.
